Exhibition prep 08/28/2009
Spent some time yesterday with a local framer getting ready to apply for an exhibition. Also a little bit of time spent in the studio. I'm nervous about getting into the show and about the potential cost of framing. Sometimes it seems as though we are going in reverse on the debt issue. When I look at it, it's more like staying the same. Besides the debt, it's important for me to remember that some of it is because Keith is in school, I am enrolled in a class, framing work, cost of painting supplies, etc. These are all good things and worth the debt. The rest is house, cars, etc. and let's face it, we all have transportation and housing costs. Still, it gives me some anxiety at times. Therefore, I'm off to work to pay those bills shortly. Hope I can paint in the next few days. My schedule is very tight. Add Comment New Format 08/22/2009
Worked on new website format today. Think it works well. The photo at top is from some shots I took last summer. Kanzeon 08/21/2009
KANZEON! NAMU BUTSU YO BUTSU U IN YO BUTSU U EN BUPPO SO EN JO RAKU GA JO CHO NEN KANZEON BO NEN KANZEON NEN NEN JU SHIN KI NEN NEN FU RI SHIN Kanzeon! Homage, Buddha! Buddha is first cause. Buddha is each cause. One with Three Jewels. Bliss, Nontime, self, pure. Dawn thought: Kanzeon. Night thought: Kanzeon. Thoughts rush -- near to Mind. Thoughts, thoughts -- one with Mind. About 15 years ago I attended a Sesshin at Dai Bosatsu Zendo. Beforehand we had been told to learn the previous sutra. We chanted it daily, but I never really studied the meaning. About a month ago, on a visit to my sister's home, she showed me a recently aquired painting of the Buddhist saint Kwan Yin. My sister is not a Buddhist, but for some reason she was attracted to the beautiful painting. I came home and started to explore who this saint was. Kwan Yin, Guan Yin, Quan Shi Yin is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. She personifies endless mercy and is said to have given up entering Nirvana because of her compassion for the suffering of the world. Upon further exploration, I learned that she is also known as Kanzeon. Amazing. She personifies the compassion of Buddha and the compassion which we each can attain in ourselves. I have spent endless hours studying methods of creating a compassionate heart and many more trying to put them into action each day. Of course, I am not always successful..But I consider my efforts to be a victory in and of themselves. So, why all this talk of Kanzeon and compassion on my artist blog. Well, I have decided to start working on some representions of Kanzeon in my work. Today, I completed a study and am beginning the process. It is not of a figure yet, but of a "background", more of a feeling based work. It is currently posted as my blog picture at right. Slow going 08/05/2009
I am feeling a little disheartened today by the lack of response to the website. It's not that I worry that people don't like the work. It is because I wanted to be able to "give" and with very few applicants I really wonder if this idea will really work. I talked to my husband about it today and he said that people are just suspicious when anything is "free". "It's a natural fear response." It just makes me sad that we often feel that way. Why can't we beleive that people are innately good? Why is it so hard to accept love and compassion, even if it is easy for us to bestow them upon others? The fear, always the fear. "Does this person really mean what they say? What's their angle? Nobody is that good." And as the song goes "you can't get something for nothing". I just don't know. Well, off to the studio. | MichelleBlogging current painting/artistic process. ArchivesSeptember 2011 Categories |
